Analysis of effective irradiances showed a notable increase in allowable exposure when using a filter.

An increasing body of evidence indicates that far-UVC radiation in the range of 200-230 nm is as effective as standard germicidal UV radiation (typically from low-pressure mercury lamps emitting at 254 nm) at killing a variety of microbial pathogens including drug-resistant bacteria, and at inactivating viruses. Specifically, the scientists have shown that 222-nm radiation inactivates influenza A (H1N1) and human coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2.

Thus, far-UVC technology is a promising tool that could be used in occupied indoor public locations such as hospitals and schools to limit the spread of both airborne- and surface-mediated microbial diseases.

Using a 3-D human skin model and DNA photodamage as the end point, we have shown here that when the longer wavelengths are filtered out, no significant levels of CPD or 6-4PP DNA damage are induced in skin exposed in the tested conditions of 23 mJ cm−2 (the current daily TLV), nor at 50, 100, or 150 mJ cm−2. The small but statistically significant induction of CPD (but not 6-4PP) in the uppermost layer of the epidermis of skin tissues exposed to 500 mJ cm−2 from the filtered lamp would suggest a skin TLV at 222 nm that is in between 150 and 500 mJ cm−2, a suggestion that is consistent with the recent Notice of Intended Change (NIC) the UVC TLV that was recently published by the ACGIH.

Overall, this work supports the use of filtered KrCl excimer lamps for the application of far-UVC radiation in occupied locations where direct exposure of humans is possible.

My Lumens Artemis Far UVC Disinfection Devices equipped with Care222 module(filtered far uvc 222nm technology) developed by Ushio, Japan.

Care222 is a new disinfecting light source that, even though not harmful to the skin or eyes of humans or animals, deactivates bacteria and viruses in the same manner as conventional ultraviolet sanitizers.

Does not cause sunburn, skin cancer or cataracts

Ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 222 nm are absorbed by the cornea of the stratum corneum of dead cells, so they do not cause damage such as sunburn, skin cancer, and cataracts.

Virus suppression / sterilization

Ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 222 nm destroy the DNA / RNA structure of viruses and cells, and suppress and sterilize them.

A key advantage of the UV-based approach is that UV light is likely to be effective against all airborne microorganisms, in marked contrast to vaccination methods. For example, while the inactivation efficiency of UV light will almost certainly vary as different strains of influenza virus emerge, they are unlikely to be significant. Similarly, as multidrug-resistant variants of bacteria emerge, their UV inactivation capacity is unlikely to vary greatly.

The use of Care222 in public places is a safe and effective way to limit the spread and transmission of air-mediated microbial diseases, such as schools, hospitals, stadiums, sports grounds and offices, and this approach may help to limit seasonal infections, the spread of tuberculosis and major epidemics.
