How UV Light Disinfects Bacteria and Viruses: Germicidal UV light in the 200-280nm range destroys the DNA/RNA of bacteria and viruses, preventing them from reproducing and rendering them harmless, even if the organisms are not killed. Traditional UV-C wavelengths, such as 254nm and 265nm, effectively inactivate pathogens but are harmful to humans. However, the 222nm wavelength UV is safe for humans and mammals, posing no risk of cancer or burns.
Irradiation Time Required for 99% Disinfection: UV light works efficiently against microorganisms with RNA/DNA, such as viruses and bacteria. Unlike drugs or chemicals, bacteria or viruses do not develop resistance to ultraviolet light.
