LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, ArkansasIn an online article by the Defence Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) posted 8/24/2021, the 189th Airlift Wing installed approximately 175 cutting-edge 222nm ultraviolet lights throughout the campus, aiding in the fight against coronavirus and other pathogens. The lights, which produce enough ultraviolet radiation to kill viruses and bacteria but not harm skin or eyes, were quickly adopted by other wings around the Air Force as well as the Pentagon and internationally.

Due to the success of the UV lights throughout the campus buildings, the lights were installed in government vehicles. The light system successfully reduced the spread of COVID within several organizations, keeping Guardsmen and their families safe and healthy whether in the office or in a mobile environment.

“Along with fully-vaccinated individuals and sanitized school environments, the lights can add substantial protection against aerosolized pathogens in high-traffic classroom settings and hallways,” Fitzpatrick said.

Currently, the most effective and safest way to fight against COVID-19 is far uvc 222nm technology. This is a UV-based disinfection method which is based on biophysical principles and a key advantage of the UV-based approach is that UV light is likely to be effective against all airborne microorganisms, in marked contrast to vaccination methods.

Care222 is a new disinfecting light source that, even though not harmful to the skin or eyes of humans or animals, deactivates bacteria and viruses in the same manner as conventional ultraviolet sanitizers.

Care222 uses an excimer lamp (a mercury-free UV excimer light source produced by Ushio especially for outputting monochromatic ultraviolet with a primary wavelength of 222 nm) in combination with a special optical bandpass filter (200 to 230 nm) which passes only ultraviolet wavelengths that have no harmful effect on people.
