Ushio, Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President Koji Naito, hereafter Ushio) was awarded the “222nm” at the 10th Technology Management and Innovation Awards sponsored by the Society of Science, Technology and Economy (abbreviation: JATES). We are pleased to inform you that we have received the President’s Award of the Society of Science, Technology and Economy for “Care222®, UV sterilization and virus inactivation technology”.

With the corporate slogan of “The future will be interesting with light,” Ushio, which provides solutions using light to various markets, is currently focusing on the light environmental hygiene business with the keyword “safety and security.” This award-winning technology will be the core technology of this business.

Ushio will continue to research and confirm the safety of acute and chronic disorders of the skin and eyes with domestic and overseas research institutes, as well as infection control and medical equipment at medical institutions, food factories, airports, airplanes, etc. We will contribute to the realization of a safe and secure society by using “light” with the aim of commercializing anti-virus equipment with an eye on the development of such equipment.

Technology Management / Innovation Awards Awards are given to excellent examples of innovation that will change the world. By widely introducing the contents of innovation and its practical process, it will be used as a reference for the next generation of managers and engineers, and will contribute to the promotion of further innovation. The purpose is to contribute to improvement, measures against SDGs and new coronaviruses.

Ushio’s antiviral and sterilization UV technology “Care222®”
It is an anti-virus / sterilization technology that cuts wavelengths of 230 nm and above, which adversely affect humans, by combining an excimer lamp with a peak wavelength of 222 nm with a special optical filter. Currently, thousands of Care222® units, which are products equipped with this technology, have been shipped mainly to domestic medical institutions, and we plan to expand them to public facilities and educational institutions in the future.
